As mentioned before, we are doing chapter by chapter reviews for Orphans Assassins and the Existential Eggplant. So far, I'd advocate for this book to be turned into a movie. The author has done an excellent job of creating characters and describing scenes to the reader. If you read this book, you can expect to be completely immersed in the book as if you are watching this story play out in front of you.
My Notes & Thoughts for Chapter 1 5/5 So Far
In the beginning, the author's use of compound sentences is a bit off-putting, as the use of so many commas in a condensed area makes it hard to smoothly read. However, once you get through those first few pages, the story really becomes smoother to read. Even through the commas, nothing the author writes is uninteresting in those first few pages. I usually don't stress too much on small structural issues as long as the book is well written and interesting; I'm not exactly the master of structure myself. So if you do purchase this book, and you encounter the same issue, give it at least 3-4 pages. Its well worth the bumpy first few.
Moving on, This story is magnificently entertaining. It's a unique tale worthy of the silver screen. There are very few books written that have the imagination and creativity worthy of expensive on-screen production. This book is one of them. I would pay to watch these characters come to life in theaters - but not just any production. This book is only fitting for a large-scale production comparable to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit or The Narnia Chronicles.
In chapter one you meet the Eggplant, he is charmingly hilarious and lovable in his own way. He's a dried eggplant turned into an amulet only the wearer can hear. Through conversations between characters, the eggplant will occasionally join in with wise jokes and criticism and the author does an amazing job of describing the scenes.
You'll meet Layla and Aaron; before you know it, you'll be immersed in their stories and how they come to meet.
